Why my dad decided to sell gold
My father is one of the most important people in my life. He actually helped me a lot when I had some financial trouble. A couple of years ago, when I was twenty years old, I was just about to start my studies at one of the biggest universities in the country. The university is situated two hundred kilometres from my hometown. I needed to buy all necessary course books but that was not all. I also had to rent a small room in the city. That was when my father intervened. I was worried about my money. He decided to sell gold jewellery that he was keeping in a wooden box under his bed. He had won the jewellery in a TV show several years before. Nobody in the family wore this type of jewellery so my dad was keeping it to sell it when hard times come. But both my parents always had well-paid jobs so there was no need to sell gold. One day my dad announced that he had just sold it to a local jeweller. I did not believe him at first but then e showed me the money. He asked me to open a bank account and pay in the cash. You can imagine how relieved I was. I knew I would not have to work hard in the evenings to earn enough money for my rent. But at the same time, I felt a bit embarrassed. It was not my dad"s duty to support me financially, anyway.
